DTI-1564 Conveyor Cooling Tunnel
Customer directive
Davron was requested to supply a conveyor oven that could transport freshly forged metal gears at an adjustable rate for approximately 25ft. The intent was to subject the gears to a controlled cooling environment from their forging temperature of 1800-2000°F, down to about 1100°F. The parts were robotically loaded and unloaded. By controlling the cooling the customer was able to avoid secondary processing steps that would result from cooling in open air.
Description
The exact requirements for this system were unknown, so Davron designed in ample adjustment by way means of conveyor speed, temperature, and individually adjustable exhaust and intake dampers per zone. The temperature of the customers parts as well as the environment presented engineering challenges in selecting appropriate materials and suitable designs to handle large conveyed weights at very high temperature. By means of extra insulation the hot parts themselves are able to provide heat to the system and the electric heating elements automatically adjust to compensate and control the environment for successful results.
