Customer directive

DTI-1278 was designed to perform thermoforming for a honeycomb composite material. The customer wished for a vertical operating door due to limited available space, but also had limited available headroom. To meet the customer’s needs, Davron designed and built a vertical door with hinges at the top and in the center, allowing the door to fold in half, yielding vertical door operation without intruding on headroom encumbrances. To aid loading and unloading, the products are placed on a motorized cart that can be driven into the oven, allowing airflow from the bottom up through the cart. The front of the cart seals to the oven face and the door can be retracted to seal against the top of the cart. Due to the large door opening, a second seal was built to seal the lower doorway when the cart was completely extended out of the oven. This allows the door to be closed and the oven to not loose temperature while the cart is parked outside and being loaded.

Description

The DTI-1278 Heat Forming Oven provides a vertical up airflow to heat this particular product. The design velocity accounts for the pressure drop through the product to provide an efficient process. The powered cart provides a stable surface to support the product and is open to allow process air to flow freely through it. The design of the cart allows the customer to load and unload product easily and can travel approximately 12 feet in just 20 seconds to move into and out of the heated chamber quickly. The powered cart design does not required any special foundations or floor pits for installation. The oven and the cart system are installed on an existing plant floor requiring no special modifications. With the door raised the oven provides a cavernous 8 feet of vertical clearance for the large frameworks required.

The control system includes PLC control of the cart, ramp and soak temperature profile controls, accelerated cooling cycle, starting sequence for all components and flame safety systems. A paperless chart recorder is included to record all thermal processes for product validation and record. All functions are controlled from the operator HMI (touch screen) and multiple recipes can be stored for future use for various product requirements. The entire system is fully assembled and factory tested for operational verification prior to shipment.

Alternative capabilities

Davron Technologies, Inc. designs and manufactures ovens of this type to meet many unique process requirements, including but not limited to, the following:

  • Airflow: Designs can be completed to provide airflow from any direction within the heated chamber as required by the product. This particular process is vertical up airflow but it can be vertical down or horizontal from either side.
  • Industries Served: Aerospace, Catalyst Manufacturing/Regeneration, or any industry that requires batch processing.
  • Materials Processed: Particularly any Honeycomb or Cellular type product with a directional flow requirement. The oven /cart system can also be used for many other types of products and can be designed in any size required.
  • Other Processes: Preheating, Curing, Drying, Solvent Drying, Bonding
  • Heating Systems: Modulating Gas Fired Direct or Indirect, Electric, or Thermal Oil.
